The main developments in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III multiplayer mode

by Emma Hamill 25 Oct 2023

All the latest info on movement mechanics, minimaps, and more.

With the latest Call of Duty installment about to launch, even the most seasoned players will be torn between excitement and dread. A new game means new maps and new accessories to exploit. Great! Not so fast: you might lose your bearings as the systems you've learned to master are modified. Oh no... With HyperX gear, you can gain an edge over your opponents. But there are still some things to consider. Want to be ready for what's to come before you even begin your baptism of fire? Then listen up. Discover the major changes planned for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III multiplayer and prepare to take the upper hand.

Movements and fights

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III retains the core tactical mechanics already known from previous Modern Warfare games. However, there are new elements and modifications that incorporate popular mechanics from older versions.

Tac-Stance

The major new feature in your mechanical arsenal is Tac-Stance. This firing mode raises your weapon in a tilted stance, halfway between hip-firing and precision aiming. Your bursts will gain accuracy while ensuring good mobility, combining the best aspects of the other two stances. Ideal for shooting in confined spaces indoors.

Cancel slide and reload

It's the return of old-school abilities: you'll be able to cancel slides and reloads. Are you in the middle of reloading when you're hit by a barrage of bullets? Just quickly switch to two weapons to be able to fire back immediately. There are even perks to link these mechanics. It's worth noting that canceling a slide will no longer reset your tactical sprint. Your legs need a rest, there's no secret!

General movement systems

Modern Warfare III also introduces some movement changes. Crossing obstacles is faster and possible while sprinting. You can fire during and immediately after a slide, but you'll need a perk to use Precision Aim while sliding. Tactical Sprint is longer and regenerates during a normal sprint. Finally, movement speed during Precision Aim has been increased. This gives you greater mobility without losing sight of your target.

The return of the traditional mini-map

Longtime COD fans will be thrilled to see the return of the traditional minimap system in Modern Warfare III. Your enemies now appear on the map with red dots indicating unsuppressed shots. Keep an eye on the radar to track firefights. Immerse yourself in the heat of the battle with your HyperX headset to help you pinpoint the direction of gunfire and better aim your shots accordingly.

Extended time to eliminate an enemy

With Modern Warfare III, players have increased base health up to 150 health points, which extends the time it takes to eliminate an enemy compared to Modern Warfare II. Speed and accuracy of fire remain at the heart of the game, but players now have the ability to respond when caught off guard by their opponents. It all depends on the weapon used, of course.

Assets grouped in the material

Once considered fabulous powers that the operator could master through magic, perks are now divided into four categories of equipment: vests, gloves, boots, and gear. They are also active from the start of the game and no longer earned over the course of the game. Furthermore, categorizing them with clothing items doesn't change your character's appearance. Don't worry, you won't be given away by flashy white sneakers, unless they're part of your character's skin.

Activision categorizes assets into the following categories:

Vests

Use multiple vest options to take advantage of special abilities, while also choosing the types of accessories you can carry in your gear. For example, the Engineer Vest disables lethal equipment but offers two tactical accessories and space for additional equipment.

Gloves

Optimize your weapon and gear management with gloves. Speed up weapon swapping, throw grenades further, reload while sprinting, and more.

Boots

Gain mobility with boots that can eliminate footsteps, accelerate obstacle crossing and climbing, and more.

Equipment

This gear area houses a variety of accessories that enhance your abilities. For example, the Bomb Disposal Shield reduces damage taken from explosives and flames outside of killstreaks, and the Bone Conduction Headset reduces noise during combat to better identify enemy footsteps and gunfire.

Map Vote

The return of map voting is another small, life-changing change in Modern Warfare III. At the end of a match, players can vote for the next tier's map from a variety of choices for a limited time. This is a highly requested feature that gives players more agency, even outside of combat.

New weapons, gear, and killstreaks

Like any good Call of Duty, this new version incorporates new weapons, gear, and killstreaks to unlock to ignite your opponents. Modern Warfare III allows content transfer for all players' weapons and attachments from Modern Warfare II, but it doesn't stop there.

Weapons

Over 30 new weapons will be revealed at the game's launch. The full list has yet to be revealed, but we already know that the Rival 9 SMG, the Longbow sniper rifle, and the Warden Kortac operator will be included.

Equipment and field improvements

A whole range of new elements will be at your disposal to find their place in your gear. The Breacher drone falls into the deadly category. You can deploy this slow-moving explosive to wreak havoc on your enemies. It explodes in close proximity, but it's very important to know how to maneuver it stealthily, as it can be shot down in mid-air by other players.

The ACS Field Upgrade is designed for objective-focused players. In addition to hacking enemy equipment, this equipment allows you to earn objective points without directly taking action.

The Communication Jammer is another useful field upgrade. It allows your teammates to remain undetected by enemy drones while within your jammer's range and prevents your opponents from activating killstreaks or field upgrades. Its range is visible on the minimap. Expect your opponents to be desperate to destroy it once deployed.

Killstreaks

In terms of killstreaks, the Mosquito drone has already been announced. Charming name, isn't it? Nothing could describe it better. Deploy this explosive drone in a specific area to watch it swoop down on enemies who approach. You'll have to listen carefully for its distinctive noise and detect it before it's too late.

Spare parts

This final section will appeal to the most tinkering and gunsmithing enthusiasts. One of the best developments in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is the introduction of the parts system in multiplayer. It adds customization kits that completely change a weapon's use. Literally. For example, you can transform a handgun into an SMG or submachine gun with a bullpup conversion kit.

You can only access these kits by reaching the maximum level for a specific weapon and then completing a special challenge for that weapon. It's not yet known how many weapon parts will be available at launch, but we can expect new options as the seasons progress.
